Dear Reader,

The Enquirer has been with the Reds from the beginning. Actually, before the beginning.

When the Cincinnati Base Ball Club played its first or second game on Oct. 1, 1866 - against the Buckeyes, Harry Wright pitching - an Enquirer writer was there. When they began to pay players and officially became the nation's first professional team, The Enquirer was there.

When pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 11, 2013 - 147 years later - an Enquirer writer and photojournalist will be there. More than 23,000 people will follow and engage with writer John Fay's reports on Twitter. About a half-million people will see Reds coverage in the Cincinnati and Kentucky Enquirers on a typical day and more than 100,000 at Cincinnati.com and NKY.com. More than 75,000 people use our Reds app to follow games live, go deep on player stats, watch videos and see photos, and follow our team's news and tweets.

We're one big Reds fan club.

If you haven't already, I hope you will take full advantage of your subscription and activate your digital account to get uninterrupted access to all this great coverage. We want you to be ready for spring training, ready for huge coverage again on Opening Day.

This is another year of great story lines, as John Erardi wrote on Friday. Billy Hamilton. Shin-Soo Choo. Aroldis Chapman. Joey Votto. All-Star Game anticipation. Another playoff run.

Fay will arrive at spring training in Goodyear, Ariz., on Feb. 10, before pitchers and catchers report. His may be the best reporter job in America, but also one of the hardest. Fay is the only independent reporter away from home in Goodyear for all eight weeks of spring training and at 130 home and away games April to October. Thank you, John Fay. Whenever Fay can't be there - and often when he is - Tom Groeschen is also on the beat. Of course Paul Daugherty has his own unique take on things in the paper, at Cincinnati.com, in The Morning Line blog and on Twitter. Photojournalists Gary Landers and Liz Dufour will take turns at spring training, and Jeff Swinger is at the ballpark nearly every day during the season. They and Fay will bring us literally hundreds of photos and videos that make you feel like you're there.

We have something new this year - RetroCincinnati.com. We launched it in October, right at the end of the season. It's a great site about all things historic in our region. We'll have a lot of fun with those 147 years of Enquirer archives through the entire baseball season. Get started by checking out the earlier All Star games in Cincinnati, a gallery of Reds who have played in All Star games, and The Enquirer's 100 greatest Reds.

I am proud of the tremendous investment The Enquirer continues to make to feed this community's appetite for all things Reds. Join the club with the entire Enquirer team.
