Over the past few months, we've been around the community talking with readers about the breadth and depth of our content, our journalism, and listening to their thoughts about how we can serve the community better. We have sat and talked with people who have been devoted readers for decades and people who now rely on our mobile site and apps and our constant updates available through Cincinnati.com.

Many of you have responded with great questions, comments and ideas. You've told us what you like and what you would like to see improved. That's helpful feedback as we continue to adapt The Enquirer to keep you informed and to serve our community better than ever.

We rely on the area's largest staff of local reporters, columnists and photojournalists to do so. Writers like Cliff Radel and Krista Ramsey who inspire positive changes in our city. Watchdog investigative reporters like Sherry Coolidge, Barry Horstman and Jane Prendergast who expose stories you need to hear. Not to mention beyond-the-game journalists like Paul Daugherty, John Fay, Joe Reedy and John Erardi who keep you in the know about local sports and personalities.

We all know reading habits are changing fast. More than 742,000 people read The Enquirer's print edition weekly. More than 365,000 local adults read The Enquirer's content available through Cincinnati.com. Even more telling, nearly 128,000 of those adults look at our news and information content only through our digital platforms. What these groups have in common is they look to us for our unique content, which has been available online at no cost since 1996.

Just like any other business, as our customers' needs change, so must we. One change is how readers will subscribe to our content.

Beginning in October, to enjoy Full Access to our content you will need a subscription regardless of whether you read our content in the print edition or through one of our digital platforms. I'll be sending a letter in a few days to subscribers' homes with all the details. But, we wanted to share this information with you in advance. Of course, the Enquirer's print edition will still be available for single copy sales every day at more than 1,300 retailer locations across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

New subscription options
We call this a "Full Access" subscription because that's what it provides - Enquirer content when, where and how it best fits readers' lifestyles. Subscription options include:

• Full Access including Home Delivery. Full access to our content across all of our platforms, including home delivery of the print edition seven days a week, on weekends or Sunday only.

• Full Access, Digital Only. Frequent updates with breaking news and events as well as content like video and searchable databases that cannot be included in the print edition.

Both options include access to Cincinnati.com on computer, tablet, mobile sites and apps, and the e-Newspaper. Readers have asked for the e-Newspaper and tablet platforms - and we are thrilled to provide them.

Subscription prices to change
The new subscription will reflect the true cost for our journalists to create unique, local and in-depth content and information. A Full Access, digital-only subscription will be available for $10 a month, about 33 cents a day. Full Access subscriptions including home delivery of the print edition will increase $2 to $6 per month, an increase of no more than 20 cents a day for current subscribers.

Some content will continue to be available to non-subscribers. (See some of the content available to non-subscribers.) Our Cincinnati.com home page, news section fronts (like sports, business and entertainment ), advertising sections (like CareerBuilder.com and Cars.com) and obituaries will still be available to non-subscribers. Non-subscribers will also be able to read up to 20 articles on Cincinnati.com every 30 days.

The new rates are effective Oct. 1, but we will honor your current rate until your next billing cycle. We have not made this decision lightly. But every news organization is changing its business model - some are cutting back print delivery to three days a week. This was a better option for the hundreds of thousands of people in our community who want a seven-day print edition and the most substantive local news coverage in the Tristate.

Dedicated to aiding community
Our responsibility to you is to hold organizations and people in our community accountable through watchdog journalism and to make sure you have the information you need to make informed decisions for your families.

It's also our job to inspire you through stories about people making a difference every day, and to shine light on the places we all know and love. With your support, we will deliver.

I invite your thoughts and questions.
